Chapter Eight

Jaliah

After closing up my office, I took the short drive to Rio’s house. Since we had to live together, it was a no-brainer that we’d cohabit in his home for the next year. I had a cute little two bedroom townhouse in Wesley Chapel but my place didn’t have shit on Rio’s place. He possessed a house with four bedrooms, three and a half bathrooms, a two-car garage, and an oversized backyard. The feature that sold me was his inground heated pool. His house was so spacious and I was already in love with it. He might have to include the house in the divorce settlement.

It felt weird sticking the key into the hole and opening the door to Rio’s house. Chop was a pure ass hole, but Rio was the exact opposite. He didn’t hesitate to clear out the master bedroom and give it to me, he said it was the least he could do for putting me into this situation.

Upon entering the bedroom that I slept in last night, I paused when I spotted a bouquet of red roses in the middle of the bed next to a small white envelope. I was starting to think I was dealing with Stockholm syndrome because a huge grin spread across my face as I slowly opened the envelope.

Since I need you to commit to the role of my wife, it’s only right that I do the same. What’s mine is yours and what’s yours is mine, Mrs. Brooks. As your husband it’s my job to provide and I won’t lack in that role. You can use this card until yours comes in the mail. -Your Husband, Dario

An Amex with his name on it accompanied the card, and I smirked at the invisible camera because my life was wild as fuck and should definitely be televised. If I was going to live under the same roof as a murderous drug dealer, smile in the face of his brother whom I despised, and socialize with his probably equally treacherous family, then I might as well spend money like a drug dealer’s wife too. I sank into bed and ordered everything I saw online to make my room feel like my own then showered and headed to my parent’s house to get this shit over with.

Pulling into the driveway of my childhood home, I was relieved that Armani’s car was in the driveway. I took a moment to breathe, eat a CBD gummy to help relax my nerves and shot Rio a text.

Me: I just got to my parents house. LMK when you are outside so I can let you in.

Rio: Bet. Chop told my parents before I could so I’mma be late.

I instantly caught an attitude, I wanted Rio to be right by my side to back me up when I fed my parents this bullshit. “Jaliah!” I looked up and squinted my eyes to see both of my parents rushing out of the front door. Armani stood on the porch
